Ambositra is one of Madagascar’s most picturesque highland towns, and a good alternative to Antsirabe if you are traveling down the RN5. Surrounded by green peaks and vibrant rice fields, Ambositra is famous for its intricate wood carvings and is the starting out point for multi-day day hikes to the Unesco Zafimaniry villages. Ambositra is also known for being home to some of the friendliest people in Madagascar. Don’t be surprised if you are stopped to have a chat on more than one occasion as you wander its winding streets and ambient markets.
